Summer programme : Rencontres de physique de l’infiniment grand à l’infiniment petit

19/06/2014 - 11:45

The 2014 edition of the Summer Advanced Undergraduate Student Programme “Rencontres de physique de l’infiniment grand à l’infiniment petit” will be held from the 15 to the 25 July 2014 in Orsay, Palaiseau, Paris and Saclay. This year, we will welcome 26 students from all over France, and their promotion will be named after Frédéric and Irène Joliot-Curie. The Institut d'Astrophysique Spatiale – contributing once more to these Rencontres in terms of organization, animation and through the course on the very large scales – will welcome the participants on the 22 July for the whole day. Participants will have the opportunity in particular to visit the calibration station and to take part in a discussion-debate about our Universe and its physical laws.

Following the success of the previous editions, the ambition of these Rencontres, offered to genuinely enthusiastic students (at the B.Sc. in Physics level, or equivalent, fluent in French), is once again to provide knowledge and skills related to research domains that explore the physics of both the infinitely large and the infinitely small: Nuclear Physics, Particle Physics, Astroparticles, Cosmology, Spacecraft Physics, related Engineering and Physics of Accelerators as well as various derived applications (Medical Physics, etc.)

The principle of these “Rencontres” is inspired by the CERN Summer Student Programme: series of lectures and seminars are offered, supplemented by round-tables and discussions with speakers. We will also visit several labs, discover their technical installations and learn about their on-going experiments.

For additional information, please visit the general web-pages of the Rencontres, or check those of the 2014 edition.
