France in the process of joining the SKA!

IAS happily welcomes France’s commitment to the construction and operation of the largest radio astronomy instrument ever built: the Square Kilometre Array.

With its unparalleled observation capabilities, the SKA will enable important advances including studies on how the first light sources in the universe emerged after the Big Bang, on the origin of magnetic fields and how they impact evolutionary processes in celestial structures, testing of gravitational theories and general relativity, and the detection of gravitational waves.
 

And of course, with the SKA, scientists will also explore the unknown. The IAS is involved in the preparation of the SKA within the OSUPS through the SKATE “action nationale d’observation”.
