A film for the 30th anniversary of the IAS

21/06/2022 - 12:15

On the occasion of its thirtieth anniversary, the Institut d'Astrophysique Spatiale (IAS - CNRS, Université Paris-Saclay) wished to highlight its activities and the know-how of its staff, in the form of a film lasting just over an hour, directed by Frédéric Hullin, a video maker from the Université Paris-Saclay.

About twenty people, retired and active, including young recruits, researchers, engineers, administrative staff, men and women, recalled the beginnings of the laboratory, recalling the national and international scientific policy in astrophysics at the time of its creation and the stakes involved in its installation on the campus of the Faculty of Science in Orsay. They went back to the genesis of the major projects that have made and still make the reputation of the IAS, and outlined the perspectives of both science and human resources in a troubled world.
This enthusiastic project has resulted in a video entitled "Institut d'Astrophysique Spatiale, 30 years of exploration, from Orsay to the edge of the Universe". Several mini-videos deepening certain points complete the main film (by clicking on the links displayed in the image).
A film to be discovered as much for the exercise in memory as for the human and technological adventure that IAS knows so well how to combine.
