VIRGO Team Science Investigations
For the
scientific evaluation of the data each potential user of the VIRGO
data submits a written proposal to the PI of what he/she
would like to do and how it will be done. These proposals
will be discussed and `approved' by the VIRGO team. This
is to make sure that the data are used correctly by those
team members not directly involved in instrumentation, to
avoid duplication by coordination, and to manage in the
broadest sense the attribution of science projects
amongst the team scientists and CoIs. On the other hand,
it shall also foster co-operation between `observers' and
theorists.
Such proposals can also cover co-investigations with GOLF
and SOI/MDI.
The outcome of the Davos meeting was the following:
- B3 to be written by TA
- B4 to be written by BA
- B5 and B6 to be written by CF
- C5 to be rewritten by CW
- C6 to be rewritten by TA
- D7 to be written by TRC
- E7 to include TA in the proposal
- F1 to include BA and GG in the proposal. To be sent to GOLF
- A. Theoretical inputs
- 1. g-mode visibility function
- 2. g-mode frequencies
- B. Data reduction methods
- C. Science for verification and determination of data products quality
- D. p-mode studies
- E. Solar variability studies
- F. g-mode studies
The g-mode detection and classification is to be seen as concerted VIRGO
effort and the proposals are to be seen as parts of this effort. The
presentation and final judgement on the results within this area will be the
PI's responsibility. These proposals should be organized such that the
activities are complementary and increase the overall chance of success.
