Internal Resources

 

UV-visible, IR, and Raman spectroscopies serve as common diagnostics for both the outlook and goals of the Astrochemistry and Origins team. The resources available to the team at IAS include the following equipment and their environment, particularly in terms of vacuum chambers, cryogenics, and sources:
    • Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometers (Vertex 70), MIR by transmission
    • Low-resolution fiber-optic spectrometer: from UV to visible in transmission and reflectance
    • Spectrofluorimeter (Perkin Elmer)
    • Cryostats coupled with ice matrix deposition chambers
    • Microwave hydrogen discharge lamps (VUV source)
    • High-Performance Liquid Chromatograph (HPLC, Thermo-Scientific)
    • Spectrofluorimeter (Perkin Elmer)
    • Owen tubular vacuum furnaces allowing annealing up to 1200 °C
    • Cathodic sputtering evaporator (for the synthesis of thin silicate films)
    • High-temperature, high-pressure environmental cell [300, 1000 K] and up to 69 bar (see Pronext)
    • Cleanroom

Experiments and developments also rely on the expertise of our numerous collaborators and benefit from the instruments in our partners' laboratories, including:

Access to FTIR and Raman microscopes on the SMIS/SOLEIL beamline (shared access with guaranteed time), primarily dedicated to the diffraction limit analysis of samples on the order of tens of microns in size.
