CDS Data Analysis

- Doppler and non-thermal velocities in the transition region:
A CDS sequence aiming at red-shift and non-thermal velocities determination in the transition region has been simultaneously with a SUMER one.

Here we delivered spectral lines with electron density diagnostic potential e.g. SIX(344/345 A) as well as series of elements e.g. Ne V, VI, VII that give access to ionisation equilibrium temperatures.
- Chromospheric and transition region network boundaries variation with temperature:
The chromospheric and transition region network is believed to be the backbone of the entire solar atmosphere and the basic channel of the energy responsible for heating the corona and accelerating the solar wind. A precise knowledge of the variation of the size of network boundaries with temperature will provide with very strong constraints to the relative weights to be attributed to the different terms (e.g. conduction, enthalpy etc) in the energy budjet.
In order to tackle this question a series of (240"x240") rasters has been obtained near the Sun center for 31-Oct and 03-Nov 1997 in the framework of the second MEDOC campaign. A series of lines comprising formation temperatures typical of the chromosphere up to the corona has been used.
