In the last decades, the European Union has become a major actor in research and innovation policies in Europe. The objective to create a European Research Area, a concept launched in 2000 but rooted in policy decisions since the 1970s, has been integrated in the European Treaties in 2009. The current framework programme for research, Horizon 2020, has been adopted with a budget of 75 billion euros in 2013. This makes the EU a major public contributor to research funding in Europe.

The combined results of the Planck satellite and the observations of the Gunn-Peterson absorption of distant quasars now point to a late reionization of the Universe around a redshift of z~8 to 6. Yet, the precise nature of the sources that powered one of the most important transitions in the history of the Universe remains elusive. Owing to an important observational progress in recent years, early star-forming galaxies are now considered as the best candidates.

L'heure des thésards est une heure consacrée à la présentation succinte des doctorants de l'IAS et destinée à tout le personnel du laboratoire. Chaque doctorant prendra quelques minutes pour se présenter lui, sa place à l'IAS ainsi que son sujet de recherche. Cette heure est particulièrement intéressante pour les membres ITA qui n'ont pas toujours la possibilité d'assister à la journée des thésards ou pour qui le format de cette journée n'est pas adapté.
