The Sun and Its Interior
Introduction
The goal of this visit is to explain to the kids what the Sun is and how we can understand its interior.
After a 15 min introduction with slides, we distributed 3 mystery boxes to each group of 4 kids, and a sheet "Interior of the Sun" for each kid.
Each kid has to find the main physical properties of the object inside the mystery boxes: weight, size, one, few or many pieces. We put rice in one type of box, small rocks in another one, and tennis balls in the last one.
To end the visit, we made an experiment with a spining bell. We experienced that just by listening to an object, we can also tell if it is moving or not. We have shown the kids that when the bell is spinning, the sound is really different ! With their eyes closed, the kids easilly figured out when the bell was spining or not.
Visit done on March 20th, 2003.
