Sky polarisation at far-infrared to radio wavelengths: The Galactic Screen before the Cosmic Microwave Background
Workshop in preparation to Planck to be held on the
University Paris-XI campus,
| |||||||||
General presentationThe prospect of high sensitivy measurements of polarized emission at sub-mm to radio wavelengths open new perspectives to study Galactic magnetic fields, ISM structure, star formation and interstellar dust. These research topics have recently become connected to a major challenge in astrophysics: the measurement of the Cosmic Microwave Background polarisation. Recent results from the WMAP satellite, from the Archeops and Boomerang balloon experiments, from ground observations with the CSO and JCMT and the scientific preparation of many upcoming projects (PILOT, Planck, Hale/SOFIA...) are stimulating this field of research from various perspectives. The aim of the workshop is to bring together scientists, working in the different areas relevant to the measurement, analysis, and interpretation of diffuse polarized emission, to discuss recent results and prospects on this rapidely evolving field.
Topics to be covered
This workshop, open to the broadest scientific community, is organized in the context of the annual Planck Working group on Galactic and Solar System Science (WG7). It will be followed by one day (September 16) meeting dedicated to the Working group activities to which everyone is invited to participate. |
