Guilaine Lagache & Nestor Fernandez-Conde Institut d'Astrophysique Spatiale 31-July-2008 README_simulations20080731.txt ------------------------------ Simulations of Fernandez-Conde, Lagache, Puget, Dole, 2008, A&A --------------------------------------------------------------- The simulations are described in this paper. Table of Content ---------------- The Maps: Two directory: Maps_Only contains only maps; Maps_with_cat: contains the maps and the associated catalogs The Catalog of Extragalactic Sources Detailed List The Maps ----------- These simulations are created at all Spitzer/MIPS, Planck/HFI and Herschel/SPIRE wavelengths. We can generate maps at other wavelengths on request. The pixel scale can range from 2 to 150 arc-seconds per pixels, with map size up to 2048x2048. If you need other pixel sizes/area combination please let us know. The simulated map is then convolved with a Gaussian of FWHM equal to the instrumental FWHM. The maps in the directory "Maps_only" are in MJy/sr, BUT maps in "Maps_with_cat" are in mJy/pixel. We suggest you to read the FITS header, there are not too many keywords, but they may help. The Catalog of Extragalactic Sources --------------------------------------- The catalogs of extragalactic sources are given in IDL save_set formats (soon in ASCII). To be easiest to handle, we produce one catalog per wavelegnth lambda. To get the catalog just restore it and follow the example below (given with lambda=850 microns) restore, 'SourcesPositionsNPix1024Bias1.5Catalogue0850', /ver MAPPOSITIONSSMALLZSLICEADD: X and Y positions in the map FLUXVECTORADD: Flux at 24 microns (micro Jy) ZVECTORMINADD, ZVECTORMAXADD defined the Z slice of the source TYPEOFSOURCEADD: type of source ('Cold' for normal galaxies or 'Sb' for starburst) WAVELENGTHS_LFZ: not needed! FLUXESOFSOURCES: flux of the sources at 850 microns (in micro Jy) LUMVECTORADD: total IR luminosities Detailed List ---------------- Map filenames: there are in the form: in Maps_only: map_obslf_NpixNNNN_WaveWWWW_PixSizePPPPP_BiasYYY_source.fits.gz Where: - NNNN is the size map (e.g. 1024); integer on 4 digits - WWWW is the wavelength in microns; integer on 4 digits. E.g. 3.6 microns: 0003; 70 microns: 0070. - PPPPP being the size of the pixel - YYY the bias between dark matter and galaxies. - "source" stand for extragalactic sources only (i.e. no other component than IR galaxies) in Maps_with_cat: Map_NPixNNNN_SizePixelPPPPP_Bias1.5 exemple: restore, 'Maps0350.save': mapla = original map; maplac=convolved map The maps for the three different bias are placed in different directories: Bias0/, Bias0.75/ and Bias1.5/ The maps for Herschel and Planck simulations are distinguishable by their wavelengths Herschel maps: Wavelengths 250, 349 and 500 Planck Maps: Wavelengths 350, 550, 850, 1380, 2097
