Aix can easily be reached either by plane or by train. By plane from the Marseille Airport, Aix is only 25 minutes by car or by shuttle bus from the airport. By the high speed train (TGV) from Paris (3 h 40 min) or Nice (2 h), Aix is only 15 minutes by shuttle bus from the Aix TGV train station. The shuttle bus is from the Cartreize company (RDT13) starts at Marseille Airport stops by at the TGV train station and ends at the Aix center train station. From the Aix center train station, the conference center is about 1 km away and the city center 500 m away.
In order to avoid the very large crowd at the CDG2 train station counters, it is advised to get its TGV ticket in advance. Otherwise if you are daring enough to get your ticket at CDG2, here is the procedure for doing so. TGV ticket can also be obtained in other countries such as the United States, provided that you spend at least 400$.
The weather at the end of June is not as hot as it can get later in the Summer, and the Northern wind (the Mistral) will easily cool you down.
Aix-en-Provence is also well known for its classical music festival that will start on July 1st, 2010 with the following tentative program. For the painting lover, this is also the occasion to discover the place where Paul Cezanne lived. For the theater lover, there is the Avignon festival taking place in July. For picturesque visit, one can recommend going to Marseille, or visit the Luberon region, and, why not, go see the Géant de Provence, le Mont Ventoux made famous by the Tour de France.
There is more than meet the eye, and you are advised to get more information from the website of the tourism office.
